The specs of Sony VAIO EC laptop are such that it can easily replace a desktop computer. The E-series laptops fall in the Economy class category. It is very affordable and can easily replace a desktop computer. Let us get on with the review and see what it is got in store for you.

Display, Video and Audio Performance The 17 inch LED display screen is enabled with backlit and has got a display resolution of 1600 x 900 pixels. For gamers, it is a delight and playing any game on such kind of screen gives you wonderful gaming experience.

The ATI Mobility Radeon HD 5470 is the graphics processing unit present on this laptop. The downside of this video card is that it only comes with a 512MB video memory. Most of the gaming notebooks come with 1 GB or 1.5GB video memory. It would have been great if they had provided with a better graphics card. The GPU is capable of running all the major games of the present times but we feel that you will face performance issues while playing forthcoming games. The speakers present on the system are of mediocre quality and is powered with Intel HD Audio. It would have been good if they installed a subwoofer on to the system.

Processor and Memory The Intel Pentium P6100 2.0 GHz CPU is what powers the Sony VAIO EC. It is a dual core processor. The processing speed is good but for while playing games you may not be able to experience smooth performance because of the low-end GPU. The 4GB DDR3 RAM is just the thing that helps in multitasking on this laptop.

Storage Even we were disappointed with the size of the hard disk drive. A 320GB hard disk is good for professional use but not good for gaming. A storage space of 500GB or 1TB would have been better on this laptop.

Additional Features The Sony VAIO EC runs on Windows 7 Home Premium which can be found on most of the laptops that are designed for gaming. Other features include Blu-ray player and DVD writer, Bluetooth, WLAN, 3 USB 2.0 slots, HDMI port, VGA out, and SDHC and memory sticks reader.

Conclusion It is decent notebook and has a reasonable price. However, if you have no problem spending more money, you may like to buy a better performing gaming notebook.
